How to link your Aadhar number with your Mutual Funds?

For all resident Indian individuals and non individuals, it is now mandatory to link Aadhar number with your mutual funds. Here’s how you can do it all online right from your desk.

Please do note that as per the mandate, if you do not update your Aadhar, your folio/account will cease to be operational. While the deadline for the same is Dec 31, 2017, you can do it right now. The new deadline is March 31, 2018.

It is a fairly simple process and can be done completely online in a few minutes.

All the 4 registrars – CAMS, Karvy, Franklin Templeton and Sundaram BNP Paribas – have created their respective online facilities for linking your Aadhar with MF folios.

However, to link aadhar online you need to have your email id and mobile number registered in your mutual fund investments to do this linking online.

Your mobile number also needs to be registered with your Aadhar number.

Please remember that you have to link Aadhar for all the holders in a folio and not just the primary holder.

How long does it take for the update to happen?

I will share my own experience here. I did my Aadhar linking on Nov 18, 2017. The acknowledgement is instant for all the registrars.

For the final confirmation, Karvy sent a confirmation in 1 working day and CAMS in 3 working days.

Sundaram and FT have mentioned that they will authenticate the information provided with the UIDAI database and then update. I am still awaiting their confirmation.

Problem doing it online? Here’s how to link Aadhar Offline

If your email id or mobile number is not registered or you cannot update online for any reason, you can submit a physical form to link your Aadhar.

In the page links provided for CAMS and Karvy, you will also find a link to download a form which you can fill and send / submit to their office.

For Sundaram and Franklin Templeton, you can call them up and ask for a form. You may also visit one of their offices.

For organisations and non-individuals, the linking of Aadhar has to be done offline only. There is no online facility for them.

Do NRIs too have to update their Aadhar?

No, currently the compulsory update is applicable to Resident Indians. It is NOT mandatory for NRIs to link their Aadhar.
